South African all-rounder Chris Morris was a hot favorite early on in the auction. Morris proved to be an impact player for the Royal Challengers Bangalore last season. He was mighty impressive with the ball as he scalped 11 wickets in 9 games at an economy of under 7. Thus attracting big bids this season around.

Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals faced off in a fierce bidding war. And it was the Royals who secured the services of the all-rounder at the price of 16.25 crores. It is the highest bid ever offered for a player at the auction. The Proteas is a big hit for his all-round prowess.

Having released Tom Curran, Royals found a better alternative in Morris. The lanky allrounder could prove to be an able sidekick to Englishman Jofra Archer who was on fire last season. Morris’ strikerate of 161 last season is something more for RR to rejoice about. It will be interesting to see if the Protea veteran is able to justify his price tag.

Glenn Maxwell sold for 14.25 crores

Glen Maxwell

After a fierce bidding war along with Chennai Super Kings (CSK)Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) signed Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for a sum of Rs. 14.25 crores. The two franchises were the only ones in auction apart from some initial interest from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The rest of the tables watched in bated breath as CSK and RCB engaged in to and fro bidding.

Maxwell didn’t have a very good season last year for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) as he scored only 108 runs. He found the going tough and was eventually dropped from his side’s playing XI. He however, displayed exemplary form in the international matches that followed against India. The all-rounder who can also bowl off-spin was always however, bound to be hot property and the same was proved at the auction.
