With only 19 days are left for IPL 2020 to begin, as many as 13 members of the CSK contingent tested positive for Coronavirus, on Friday. However, The Board of Control for Cricket in India is leaving no stones unturned to organise the tournament successfully.

Amidst all this, a top franchise has sent a presentation to the Board, asking them if they will compensate for the financial losses incurred in this edition of IPL. A detailed presentation shows that the franchise is going to incur a financial loss of INR 46 crores this year. They further asked if BCCI will compensate for the losses, or it will entirely be born by the franchise.

The BCCI, though, is adamant that they are not going to compensate any financial losses to the franchises.

Franchises are being penny-wise and pound foolish. What if there was no IPL this year? Would they be making any money? There are more random questions – like who will pay for agencies appointed by BCCI, who will bear costs of match operations? Who will compensate for costs incurred for hosting practice sessions? The board is clear that there will be no compensations,” stated a senior office-bearer and administrator of BCCI told TOI.

Each Franchise to earn almost INR 150 Crores this year: BCCI

Despite all the losses incurred this year, each team is likely to earn INR 150 crores in IPL 2020. Amidst the tough times, BCCI hopes to conduct the tournament successfully. It has urged the franchises not to make a fuss about the financial losses ahead of the upcoming IPL.

At a time when franchises should be wondering how to do something for COVID victims in the country, they are counting pennies. Are they not making money? Each franchise will earn around Rs 150 cr this IPL. These are absurd demands,” the BCCI member added.

However, another BCCI official has said that the franchises are not creating any such issues, but it’s so unfortunate that a board member is spreading such rumours for his personal gain.

The 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is due to start from 19th September 2020.
