At the halfway mark of the Indian Premier League tournament, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) find themselves at the 7th spot in the table having won just two out of their seven matches. CSK have never failed to reach the playoffs of the IPL in every edition they have been a part of. However, this year it seems like they will have to pull off a remarkable comeback to make it.

CSK have batted second in each of their seven games and have struggled to chase down totals owing to their lack of intent early on to get after the bowlers. They’ve been guilty of leaving too much runs to get at the death. With the likes of skipper MS Dhoni not in the best of form, that has proved to be too difficult.

CSK will now have to win at least 5 games out of their remaining 7 to stand a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

‘Bring Sam Curran up the order and pick Imran Tahir’ – Hogg

Brad Hogg

Former Australian wrist-spinner Brad Hogg has suggested two changes that CSK have to make in order to stand a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

Firstly Hogg suggested that Sam Curran should bat up the order at No. 3. “I would bring Sam Curran from the lower order up to No.3. That left-hander would break all the right-handers that you have got at the top of the order. And he can also play with a little bit of freedom as he has done with a lot of T20 franchises around the world as well as England,” Hogg said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.

Secondly, Hogg suggested that last season’s purple cap winner Imran Tahir will have to be picked ahead of Dwayne Bravo. “I will bring in Tahir instead of Bravo. Sorry Bravo, you are one of my favourites but you need more spin in your line-up if you are going to make inroads going forward. I will keep Jagadeesan in the team as well. It is great to see an up and coming cricketer from Tamil Nadu playing for the Chennai Super Kings.” Hogg said.
