Kolkata Knight Riders kicked off their second half of the IPL with a new leader and a revamped team combination. But nothing went as planned as they handed an easy 8 wicket win to a sensational Mumbai Indians side. While Eoin Morgan was lucky at the toss on his captaincy debut in IPL nothing went right thereafter for his side. They got off to a steady start but once Rahul Tripathi, thanks to a stunning effort from SuryaKumar Yadav, all hell broke loose for them. Their batting order collapsed as they lost half their team by the 11th over.
A subdued KKR bowed to MI
It was an 87 run stand between Pat Cummins and Eoin Morgan which helped them reach a respectable total of 148. With ball in hand, the story was same for the east Indian franchise as Mumbai batsmen scored runs at will. This timid show of bowling further upset the fans as they expressed their disappointment on social media. with this win, the head to head record goes 21-6 in MI’s favour.
“KKR be like-Mi hai ki UPSC ka paper? Clear hi nahi hota hai,” a fan ridiculed.
“If you ever feel useless in life, take a look at the #4 position in the KolkataKnightRiders team and you will never feel more grateful,” an angry fan tweeted as Dinesh Kartik yet again failed.
The KKR bowling attack lacked intent as they were toyed around by MI who were calm and composed throughout the chase. This will definitely raise some questions on Morgan’s captaincy as we head towards the business end of the tournament.
