The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin from the upcoming month. This season is turning out to be a disastrous one for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as few distressful news came from their team camp. Earlier, they were supposed to play the opening game, but that also might not happen this time.

The fortunes started turning against their favour when 12 members from their side tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Furthermore, Ruturaj Gaikwad also tested as COVID-19 positive and one of those 12 members was recognised to be Deepak Chahar. Following this, CSK vice-captain Suresh Raina also decided to pull off from the tournament, citing some ‘personal reasons’.

After Suresh Raina, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh is also thinking to skip this season. According to a report in Inside Sport, Bhajji was scheduled to fly tomorrow (Tuesday) for Dubai. But the current situation of coronavirus cases in the CSK camp is forcing him to rethink the decision.

“Harbhajan is due to join the team on Tuesday. But the situation with Chennai Super Kings currently has left him very concerned. He may rejig his calendars or even decide to skip the IPL this year,” a source close to the player said.

CSK might not play the opening game

Fans might not get to see an MI-CSK clash as the opener

The Chennai-based franchise is currently under an extended quarantine period. They will now be under the room isolation for two weeks, which was around one week earlier.

Adding to this, a few of CSK players are currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League 2020, and will join the side only after August 17, 2020. Understandably, Chennai would want some more time to get sorted with all the ruckus. Thus, as of now, they don’t stand in a position to play the opening match of IPL 2020.
