IPL 2020 KXIP vs MI: A convincing 48 run victory for Mumbai Indians over Kings XI Punjab


Mumbai Indians (MI) comfortably beat Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) by 48 runs after Rahul Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah‘s powerful performance. KXIP batsmen didn’t have a great show with the bat and could only score 143/8 while chasing 192 runs. Mumbai Indians move to the top of the points table with 4 points in IPL 2020.
KXIP batsmen who have had an outstanding batting show in the IPL 2020 so far, were overshadowed by the MI bowling unit. Rahul Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah knocked out the in-form duo of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal after a good start. Rahul made 17 and Agarwal was out after scoring 25. Nicholas Pooran was the top scorer for KXIP with 44 runs. KXIP could not keep up with the required run rate and lost 6 wickets after the end of 15 overs.
MI bowlers were clinical with Pattinson, Bumrah, and Chahar picking two wickets each for the Mumbai Indians. Trent Boult and Krunal Pandya took one wicket apiece.
Pandya, Pollard duo push MI scorecard to 192 after Rohit Sharma Half Century

Mumbai Indians started a mediocre display in the first innings after being allowed to bat first by Kings XI Punjab. MI lost two wickets within the first four overs. De Kock went for a duck in the very first over and Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed in the fourth over after scoring 10. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front and played a convincing 70 off 45 balls for the Mumbai Indians. Rohit and Ishan Kishan had a pivotal partnership for MI in the middle overs.
Sheldon Cottrell was the only bowler economical and successful for KXIP who bowled a wicket maiden in the first over of the match. Every other bowler went for runs, including pacer Mohammad Shami and young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi.
All-rounders Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya were instrumental for the final push in the MI innings. Rohit, Pollard, and Pandya scored 106 runs in the final six over for MI. Mumbai managed to score 191/4 at the end of 20 overs. Pollard scored 47 runs in 20 balls whereas Pandya scored 30 runs in just 11 deliveries.
Mumbai has now won 2 games out of 4 after losing the opening game to Chennai Super Kings. While KXIP have lost 3 close games out 4 and is with 2 points in the opening four-game so far.
