Following Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) debacle at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC), former India batsman and cricket expert Aakash Chopra has said that the Chennai skipper MS Dhoni is someone who doesn’t like playing with five bowlers in the team.
Chopra further said that the weakness of the CSK’s top-order hasn’t left him with a lot of options so far in the Indian Premier League (IPL), adding that CSK yesterday never showed any intent in the chase and were let down by their spinners in the first innings as well.
Aakash Chopra on Dhoni’s batting order and his choice to play only five bowlers
In his YouTube show, the former right-handed batsman pointed out that the lack of runs from the top order is a huge concern for the team. Speaking on Dhoni’s decision to go with five bowlers Chopra said, “For the first time in my memory, Dhoni the captain is playing only with 5 bowlers. He doesn’t like playing with 5 bowlers, but this time he is.”
MS Dhoni’s batting order has also been questioned by fans and pundits. Dhoni has been batting lower down the order instead of guiding the team from the front when they need him the most. But Chopra said he can understand why Dhoni is doing so.
Speaking about the same Aakash Chopra said, “When you talk about Dhoni’s batting order, you need to look at where Ruturaj Gaikwad and Murali Vijay can bat. What’s the use of sending Kedar Jadhav at the end. I can understand where Dhoni is batting and why he is batting there.”
Chopra said that CSK are getting hurt by the absence of Raina and Harbhajan Singh which is evident from their performances. He further said that CSK should soon find a perfect replacement from within for Raina. He concluded by saying that Dhoni must play six bowlers to make it up for their poor batting lineup.
