Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have picked West Indian and IPL legend Chris Gayle in their playing XI for the first time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 for the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Chris Gayle is a household name in the IPL. He holds a plethora of records including the highest amount of sixes and the highest individual score in IPL history (175*).
Gayle was sidelined from cricketing action due to a stomach infection and he missed his side’s first 7 matches in the tournament. KXIP dearly missed him and his aggressive presence as they could only muster a solitary win from their first 7. It was reported that Gayle was fit to play in KXIP’s previous match but was declared unfit at the last moment. Gayle then shared a video on social media announcing his return in KXIP’s next game i.e. today’s game against RCB saying “It still is possible” referring to his side’s hopes of making it to the playoffs.
Unchanged RCB bat first
Royal Challengers Bangalore have won the toss and chosen to bat first. This is a crucial game for either side. It’s now or never territory for KXIP. They will now have to take each game one by one and keep winning.
RCB on the other hand are more comfortably placed but they of all teams will know that things can change very quickly in the IPL. They will therefore, want to pull away from those teams that are breathing down their neck.
RCB are unchanged from their win over Kolkata Knight Riders while KXIP have brought in Chris Gayle, Murugan Ashwin and Deepak Hooda instead of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Prabhsimran Singh and Mandeep Singh.
