The Delhi Capitals (DC) lost their first match of IPL 2020 against SRH. It was a bad day for DC skipper Shreyas Iyer as he couldn’t contribute from bat and also has been fined for slow over-rate. Iyer was fined 12 lakh as his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offence.
In IPL 2020, this is the second offence related to a slow rate. Last week, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli was also fined an amount of Rs 12 lakh for his team maintaining a slow over-rate against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
“Delhi Capitals Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi on 29 September 2020,” a release sent out by the IPL stated.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh,” it added.
‘A lot of learnings from this wicket and conditions’: Shreyas Iyer
On Tuesday, Delhi Capitals faced their first defeat of the tournament as they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 15 runs. Chasing 163 runs, DC were restricted to 147/7 with captain Iyer scoring 17 runs off 21 balls.
In the post-match presentation, Iyer conceded that even though his team showed much efforts to chase 163, but the two-paced nature and disciplined bowling from Sunrisers took them to lead the game.
“We were pretty much happy with 162, it was a par score on this wicket. We had no idea how this wicket would behave as this is our first game here. They outplayed us in all three departments and credit to them for that. It was surprising and in the second innings, it (pitch) was two-paced,” he said.
“When I went in, the ball wasn’t coming onto the bat. We thought dew would come on but we can’t give any reasons at this moment. We didn’t execute the way we wanted to. A lot of learnings from this wicket and conditions.”
First win for SRH this season
Earlier Sunrisers Hyderabad piled up 162 runs after being asked to bat first by Delhi Capitals. Jonny Bairstow brought up his fourth fifty of his IPL career and his second one in IPL 2020. Bairstow and Warner started the innings cautiously and scored 77 runs for the first wicket. Warner lost his wicket to Amit Mishra and was dismissed for 45 runs.
Sunrisers Batsman Kane Williamson played his first match of IPL 2020. Williamson played an crucial knock of 41 from 26 deliveries and managed to take SRH’s score to 162. Then SRH bowlers restricted DC to open their account on points table this season.
