IPL 2020 : “Teaching experienced batsman how to stay till the end & finish the job,” Virender Sehwag lauds Ruturaj Gaikwad after third fifty on the trot

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Virender Sehwag

Chennai Super Kings played their worst ever IPL season this year as they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in 11 seasons. But amongst all the ruckus, they discovered a gem of a player, Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad got off on the wrong foot on his IPL debut as he was sent packing for a duck. And was only able to score 5 more runs in the next couple of innings before being dropped.
But the young gun was determined to succeed and grabbed the opportunity when he was promoted up the order to open the innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Replacing veteran Shane Watson atop the CSK batting order, Gaikwad scored an unbeaten 65 to take his side home and never looked back ever since. The 23-year-old opener went on to score two more half-centuries in his next two games to become the first-ever uncapped player to smash three consecutive fifties in the history of the IPL.
Gaikwad scored career-best 72 against Kolkata Knight Riders before playing an unbeaten knock of 62 against Kings XI Punjab to dash their playoff hopes. CSK finished the season on a high with three successive wins riding on Gaikwad’s stupendous knocks at the top of the order.
Ruturaj Gaikwad showing his class

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was all praises for the young Maharastra after his unbeaten knock in the clash between CSK and KXIP. Sehwag is impressed by the way Gaikwad batted through the innings and saw his side home. He opines that experienced batsmen should learn from the way Gaikwad paced his innings and batted till the end.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad showing his class. Teaching many experienced batsman how to stay till the end & finish the job. One of the big pluses, not only for Chennai but of this IPL. Have a feeling Hyderabad will have their fate in their own hands in the last league match. Win and qualify,” Sehwag’s tweet read.
Gaikwad, who has been very consistent for Maharastra, amassed 204 runs in the six games he played this season with an impressive average of 51.
