If numbers are anything to go by, Delhi Capitals’ (DC) journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been substadard so far, with the team reaching the playoffs only twice and finishing at the bottom of the table four times, more than any other team in the tournament.
However, with the arrival of Australian great, Ricky Ponting, DC’s fortune has turned upside down and the team made it to the playoffs last season. The feat came after a long wait of eight years.
The team will now look to continue their last year’s performance and take it further to clinch the IPL title. And their coach, Ponting, has a few words of appreciation for his boys.
Ponting appreciates the efforts put in by his players during training session
The DC chief posted pictures of the team’s players, lauding their efforts during training session. He said, “Counting down the days until we start our season on Sunday. The boys have been outstanding with their training and preparation and competition for spots in the starting eleven is certainly hot. Exactly what you want as a coach.”
Delhi is captained by young Shreyas Iyer, who has proven his mettle as a captain and commands trust from his players and coach. The side will feature big names like Shikhar Dhawan, R. Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane this time. On the other hand, they have talented pool of youngsters — Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw and Shimron Hetmyer.
DC will look forward to start the tournament with a win against Kings XI Punjab on September 20th.
