Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner and opening batsman Jonny Bairstow racked up their fifth-century stand on Thursday. They defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 69 runs at the Dubai International Stadium. In the post-match presentation, Warner who becomes the first player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history to register 50 fifty-plus scores, said that the duo enjoys batting together.
The Aussie opener and the Englishman wicketkeeper-batsman scored 160 runs in 15 overs against KXIP, becoming the key reason behind SRH’s triumph in Dubai.
‘Don’t know why people think there’s so much hatred between two countries’: David Warner
Warner (52) scored his 9th successive half-century against KXIP. It was their 5th century-run partnership for SRH in just 16 innings.
“We love batting with each other. We pride ourselves in running hard between wickets. I don’t know why people think there’s so much hatred between the two countries! It’s going well, at the moment. I am just rotating strike for him. We enjoy batting with each other. We tried to negate the swing by coming at them (KXIP bowlers),” Warner said at the post-match presentation.
Bairstow was awarded the Man of the Match trophy for his blistering knock which includes 7 fours and 6 sixes in Dubai.
“I was pleased, obviously my third fifty, but the consistency of getting them back-to-back is key. [Batting with Warner] It’s good fun, we know what a quality player he is. I think it was his 50th fifty. That number speaks for him,” Bairstow said after the game.
Warner-led side bowled out KXIP for 136 in 16.5 overs. Rashid Khan took 3 wickets while Khaleel Ahmed and T Natrajan picked two each. Hyderabad jumped to the 3rd spot on the IPL 2020 points table. This is also their biggest win against KXIP in terms of runs.
