IPL 2021: 3 teams that can go for Mitchell Starc in the auction

Mitchell Starc

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc is among the most feared bowlers in world cricket. While also being express-fast, he offers variety in the form of being a left-armer. His accurate yorkers and fiery bouncers have unsettled even the best of batsmen. It is evident that he would receive some interest when the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) takes place next month.

Many, including former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra have touted Starc to potentially go for the highest amount in the auction. Although, the fast-bowler looked out of sorts in India’s tour of Australia, it is still clear that Starc can be one of the best bowlers in the world. Here are three teams who could bid for the Australian in the auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Mitchell Starc already turned up for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL previously and in 2021 as well, he could be a valuable addition given the side’s death-bowling woes. The franchise has already released pacers Chris Morris and Isuru Udana while Dale Steyn has made himself unavailable.

The addition of Starc could work wonders for the side who will be hoping to get their hands on the coveted trophy for the first time in their history.

Mumbai Indians

Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) already seem to have all bases covered and are the overwhelming favorites to go on and clinch the title for the 6th time. However, following the retirement of Lasith Malinga and the release of overseas pacers Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson and Mitchell McClenaghan, the side lacks a third pacer to complement Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.

The addition of Starc here could be perfect and might make for a dream bowling line-up that could lead to teams struggling against pace and looking to target only spin.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals (RR) finished with the wooden spoon last year after throwing away a strong start to the tournament. Their pace bowling was the biggest issue as there was no solid bowler to complement the deadly Jofra Archer. The bowling attack leaked runs at will especially at the death which led to the team’s downfall.

If Starc is added to the side, it could make for a spicy opening bowling combination of Starc and Archer that would choke the runs both in the Powerplay and at the death while also picking up wickets.
