IPL 2021: Aakash Chopra makes bold prediction ahead of auction, backs this player to become most expensive buy of all time

After a couple of months of enthralling Test cricket, the T20 fever is back in India. While a big Test series at home is looming, the impeding Indian Premier League (IPL) auction has taken the centre stage. With franchises releasing the list of retained and released players, speculations on the upcoming auction have stormed social media.

While the auction this tie around will be a mini-auction, some big names will be under the hammer for IPL 2021. And this has the cricket-loving nation eagerly waiting for the auction which might take place in February. Former Indian cricketer and full-time pundit Aakash Chopra has shared a bold prediction on the retention day of the cash-rich tournament.

Chopra feels that Aussie quick Mitchell Starc will be breaking the all-time record this auction. He adds that Kiwi quick Kyle Jamieson and Englishman Jason Roy will witness a bidding war for their services. Jamieson, who shot to fame with his heroics with the red ball, is yet to prove his worth in the shortest format. But his express pace and height might interest numerous franchises.

Chopra’s tweet read, “Mujeeb to go for 7-8 crore. Green for 5-6 Crore. Starc to become the most expensive IPL buy ever. Jamieson to receive solid interest. 5-7 crore. Jason Roy 4-6 crore. Maxwell and NCN will still get decent contracts. Subject to their availability of course. #EarlyCall #IPL2021.“

Starc, who spearheaded the potent Australian bowling attack against Team India in their recently concluded tour Down Under, had opted to pull out of IPL 2020 in order to prepare for the ICC World T20 which was earlier scheduled to take place in Australia last year. The Australian speed merchant has plied his trade with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the cash-rich league. Starc made his IPL debut against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in 2014.
