KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) emerged as one of the most exciting teams during the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, they failed to make it to the playoffs after finishing at the sixth spot with 12 points. But they have addressed their issues during the IPL 2021 auctions and looks more balanced squad now.
Meanwhile, former India cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra picked his probable playing XI for the Punjab-based franchise. He opted to begin with KL Rahul and Chris Gayle at the top followed by Mayank Agarwal. Interestingly, top T20 batsman Dawid Malan failed to make it to Chopra’s expected team.
“I will be going with KL Rahul and Gayle as the openers, Mayank Agarwal at No.3, Pooran at No.4, Hooda at No.5 and Moises Henriques at No.6. You should please play Henriques as he will add that balance to your side,” said Chopra.
“At No.7, you can have anyone. You can play Shahrukh, Mandeep or Sarfaraz – whoever you play it won’t make any difference. But if you have this kind of batting, you can play with a lot of freedom, something that they should do this season,” added Chopra.
‘Ashwin, Bishnoi, Shami, and Richardson are my four bowlers’: Chopra
Chopra ended his team with Ravi Bishnoi, Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami and Jhye Richardson as the four proper bowling options. He added that PBKS might play Arshdeep Singh while dropping a spinner. Surprisingly, Australian pacer Riley Meredith was not there in Chopra’s playing XI for Punjab despite him being bought for a whopping INR 8 crores during the auctions.
“Then four bowlers – Ashwin, Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami, and Jhye Richardson. This will be my team, if you feel that you need to play one less spinner, you have Arshdeep as an option available,” said Chopra.
