IPL 2021 Auction: AB de Villiers becomes 1st overseas player to join 100 Cr salary club after RCB’s retention

As Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained the South African player AB de Villiers for 11 crores on Wednesday, de Villiers became the first foreigner to join 100 Cr salary club. He was retained by RCB ahead of the mini-auction that will take place in the third week of February.

The swashbuckling batsman of RCB, AB de Villiers made his IPL belt reach a whopping high 102.5 Cr after the red brigade retained him for 11cr. This South African batsman, also known as Mr 360 degree, has featured 169 matches of the tournament, hit 4849 runs at an average of 40.40.

AB de Villiers earlier played for Delhi Daredevils

Villiers has been the part of just two IPL franchisees- Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils then) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He featured for Delhi Daredevils from the genesis of the IPL, 2008 till 2010, post which he was taken by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Since then, for almost a decade, he has been representing the red RCB brigade.

Entering in this coalition of the elite 100 crore club, de Villiers will join Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni, Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma, and his RCB teammate Virat Kohli. These three other cricketers have crossed the 100 crore mark to date.
