IPL 2021 Auction: Chennai Super Kings acquire K Gowtham for Rs. 9.25 crores

Chennai Super Kings had already acquired Moeen Ali in the auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who earlier acquired Moeen Ali at the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) went for a similar all-rounder in Krishnappa Gowtham and acquired him for Rs. 9.25 crores. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opened the bidding for Gowtham before Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) joined in the bidding.

The paddles were then raised in quick succession and the price shot over 3 crores. The KKR and SRH franchises kept on going to take the bid past 7.5 crores. It was then that CSK jumped in and took the lead at 7.75 crores. There was then a war between CSK and SRH which ended with Gowtham getting sold for 9.25 crores which was followed by applause at the CSK table.

Krishnappa Gowtham was a part of the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) franchise last season where he played only two matches. He scored 42 runs and took 1 wicket. He has played a total of 24 matches in the tournament for various sides like Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians and has an excellent strike-rate of 169 with the bat and a decent economy of 8 with the ball.

The auction is currently taking place in Chennai with Hugh Edmeades as the auctioneer. The event will go on till late evening depending on how much time it takes for all players to go under the hammer.
