Australian pacer Jhye Richardson went for a huge amount of Rs. 14 crores to the Punjab Kings after a to and fro bidding war with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The two sides in the war expressed their interest right from the very beginning as the bids kept escalating and neither relenting. With RCB’s purse on 21 crores and Punjab’s in excess of 50 crores, RCB finally decided to not go for more.

Jhye Richardson has been in terrific form as of late as he shone in the Big Bash League for the Perth Scorchers. His ability to take wickets at the death and also keep things economical had made him a hot prospect even before the IPL auction began. As expected, he went for huge money and became a millionaire.

Punjab Kings had also wanted Moeen Ali in the auction

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) filled their only overseas slot left at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction by acquiring English all-rounder Moeen Ali for a sum of Rs. 7 crores. Once again, a fierce bidding war ensued along with the Punjab Kings until the franchise finally relented and let him go to the CSK franchise. The buy was CSK’s only overseas buy of the evening as they only had one slot to fill.

The auction is currently taking place in Chennai with Hugh Edmeades as the auctioneer. The event will go on till late evening depending on how much time it takes for all players to go under the hammer.
