Tamil Nadu all-rounder Shahrukh Khan went for big money at the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Beginning at his base price of Rs. 20 lakhs, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings engaged in a bidding war till his price inflated to Rs. 5.25 crores in the end. There was also interest in the form of amusement from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp due to the player’s name coinciding with that of KKR’s co-owner and actor Shahrukh Khan.

Soon after Punjab Kings secured his signing, there was excitement from co-owner Preity Zinta who then hilariously bragged around the auction table that they had got Shahrukh Khan.

Shahrukh Khan has an excellent reputation of being a hard-hitting all-rounder who can finish games off for his side. The said skills were on display during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as he single-handedly led his side to victory on more than one occasion. The fact that he can also bowl occasional off-spin and his height of 6 feet and 6 inches are an added advantage in his armory.

The auction is currently taking place in Chennai with Hugh Edmeades as the auctioneer. The event will go on till late evening depending on how much time it takes for all players to go under the hammer.
