Tamil Nadu all-rounder Shahrukh Khan attracted big money at the auction for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Beginning at his base price of Rs. 20 lakhs, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings engaged in a bidding war till his price inflated to Rs. 5.25 crores in the end. There was also a lot of amusement from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp as the player’s name coincided with that of their co-owner and actor Shahrukh Khan.
Soon after Punjab Kings secured his signing, there was excitement from co-owner Preity Zinta. She hilariously bragged around the auction table that they had got Shahrukh Khan. Zinta exclaimed, “We bought Shahrukh Khan,” looking at the KKR table.
K Gautham – Another uncapped player attracts big bids
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who earlier acquired Moeen Ali at the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) went for a similar all-rounder in Krishnappa Gowtham and acquired him for Rs. 9.25 crores. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opened the bidding for Gowtham before Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) joined in the bidding.
The paddles were then raised in quick succession and the price shot over 3 crores. The KKR and SRH franchises kept on going to take the bid past 7.5 crores. It was then that CSK jumped in and took the lead at 7.75 crores. There was then a war between CSK and SRH which ended with Gowtham getting sold for 9.25 crores which was followed by applause at the CSK table.
