The mini-auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is only hours away. The auction will see 292 go under the hammer with only 70 odd spots up for grabs. With some big names being released ahead of the auction, it will be interesting to see which player attracts the highest bids.
With only Rs 15.35 crore in the purse, it will be interesting to see how the defending champions Mumbai Indians fare this time around. While they have most of their bases covered, they still need a quality overseas quick to join forces with Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. Reports suggest that, captain Rohit Sharma and coach Mahela Jayawardene stressed on going for the “best possible overseas bowler” in the auction this afternoon.
“The management has just finished its zoom meeting with Rohit and Mahela. They discussed the best possible overseas bowling options,” Insidesport quoted a source in the know of things.
Players in Mumbai Indians’ crosshairs
Jhye Richardson will be the first name on the Indians’ list coming into the auction. The young Australian quick has the knoack of taking wickets and is coming off a great Big Bash League season. Richardson was the highest wicket-taker in BBL with 29 wickets for Perth Scorchers. Barring him, another name which will be on the cards is that of New Zealander Kyle Jamieson.
The big and burly fast bowler can also contribute with bat making him a great asset for the format. MI will be also be looking to secure a back up leg spinner for Rahul Chahar. The young leggie was impressive to start off but lost his carm as the tournament progressed.
