The 2021 edition of Indian Premier League will start from April 9. The schedule has now been released by the BCCI.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced its full schedule for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The governing council of the tournament met today and decided on the schedule for it. The venues for the tournament have also been announced and they are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The first match will be in Chennai.

The first match will be played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The playoffs and the final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The venues have all been made neutral and each team will play at four venues during the league stages. Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore will host 10 matches each while Ahmedabad and Delhi will host 8 matches each in the league stages.

The 2020 edition of the tournament which was played in the UAE was played behind closed doors without spectators. The same is set to continue this year as well despite the fact that crowds were allowed back in for the recently concluded test series between India and England in both Chennai and Ahmedabad. Strict bio-bubble restrictions have also been put in place for the tournament this year like the last.

There will be as many as 11 double header games in which 6 teams will play three afternoon matches while two teams will play two afternoon matches. All night matches will begin at 7:30 PM IST while afternoon games will begin at 3:30 PM IST.
