The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) proved to be a run fest as both sides came up with excellent batting performances. Earlier for PBKS, it was a familiar face who contributed as captain KL Rahul produced another innings of the highest quality to thwart the RR bowlers’ plans. He was well supported by Deepak Hooda.
Hooda was at his explosive best as he took on the RR bowlers and hit them around the park at will. His brute force was on display as he did not allow the bowlers any chance to contain him. He got to his fifty in just 20 balls before getting dismissed. Rahul then looked set for a century before a scintillating catch by Rahul Tewatia brought an end to his innings. Then, in the chase, RR got off to a bad start as they lost their openers early but Sanju Samson came up with a valiant fight.
Blue layer on ball gets spotted; commentators attempt to explain
During Rajasthan Royals’ innings when skipper Sanju Samson was getting settled, a mysterious blue layer was spotted sticking to the ball. It was especially visible during replays for a review call when Samson was ruled out by umpire Anil Chaudhary before the call was overturned. Now, this blue layer well and truly puzzled the fans who had no clue as to what it was. The commentators were confused as well.
The analysts on Select Dugout speculated that it could have been paint from the advertising board or ropes when Jos Buttler had hit a six. While there has been no confirmation about the same and there probably never will be, the aforesaid seems like the most plausible reason.
