Cheteshwar Pujara was a surprise pick at the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he was picked by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for his base price of Rs. 50 lakhs. He had expressed his interest to be a part of the tournament beforehand while he registered for the auction but it seemed unlikely that he would be acquired by any team due to him being known for his test knocks and defensive batting.
CSK decided to show faith in the batsman however and as soon as he was picked, a round of applause was heard around the auction room out of respect for the player and the decision to pick him. Pujara has now expressed his thoughts on being chosen for the IPL in a video that was posted by the Chennai Super Kings franchise’s official handle.
Cheteshwar Pujara sends ‘Yellovely’ message
Cheteshwar Pujara can be seen speaking in the video about getting picked in the auction, with his daughter by his side. “It’s great to be back in the IPL, really looking forward to playing in the yellow jersey. I will be playing Dhoni Bhai again, he was the captain of the Test team when I made my debut and I have fond memories of playing under Mahi Bhai, I am really looking forward to playing with him again,” Pujara said.
“Talking about the IPL, I think it is about changing the mindset, switching from the Test format to the IPL. You need to switch the gears as early as possible. I feel it’s the mental aspect which changes quickly. With good preparation, I am hopeful that I will do well in the IPL. Whistle podu and looking forward to the IPL,” Pujara added.
It remains to be seen where CSK fit Pujara in with regard to their playing XI.
