Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went top of the table as they thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with an all-round performance for the ages from Ravindra Jadeja guiding them to it at the Wankhede Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL). IT was well and truly a phenomenal performance from the all-rounder and it looked like everything he touched turned to gold.

Earlier at the toss, both teams’ captains gave varying views on the pitch. While CSK skipper MS Dhoni stated that it might deteriorate, RCB captain Virat Kohli stated that the pitch might remain the same throughout. CSK brought in Imran Tahir and Dwayne Bravo for the injured Moeen Ali and Lungi Ngidi while RCB brought in Dan Christian for Kane Richardson and Navdeep Saini for Shahbaz Ahmed.

Batting first, the CSK openers got their side off to a good and fluent start like they did in the previous match as they raced to a fifty partnership. However, after their dismissals and the end of cameos from Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu, there was a period of lull as CSK slumped with regard to run-rate. It was then Ravindra Jadeja produced an over of madness by hitting 37 runs off Harshal Patel‘s last over.

Chasing a huge target of 192, RCB got off to a great start as they got to the highest score in this year’s Powerplay. However, once the wickets started falling, there was no stopping the Men in Yellow. Jadeja shone yet again with a three-wicket haul including the bowled dismissals of Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. As RCB collapsed, it was only a matter of how much RCB score in total. They got to 122/9 and lost the match by 69 runs.
