Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made a big decision ahead of their previous match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) when they relieved their skipper David Warner of captaincy duties and also removed him from the playing XI. Vice-captain Kane Williamson was elevated to the post of captaincy while Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi took the Aussie opener’s place in the XI.

The change in captaincy and personnel did not seem to work as SRH slumped to their sixth defeat of the season. The Orange Army are in dire straits at the moment as only a stunning turnaround would see them get to the playoffs. For today’s match against defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI), it remains to be seen as to what changes the side comes up with regard to the playing XI and if Warner features.

The decision to remove David Warner from both the captaincy and the playing XI has not been received well by fans of the franchise with many calling for the Aussie to be reinstated into the XI at least, if not captaincy. The hashtag #BringBackWarner has been trending on Twitter for quite some time now.

Meanwhile, David Warner’s brother Steve Warner has expressed his opinion on the removal of the opener from the XI. He took to Instagram and slammed the SRH management writing, “A bloke that has carried this team for years, your openers aren’t the issue. How about getting a decent middle-order that scores some runs.

SRH face MI today at 7:30 PM in Delhi.
