IPL 2021: “I take full responsibility” – David Warner takes the blames for SRH’s loss to CSK

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper David Warner came up with an unusually slow knock today in his side’s defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as he found the going tough in a painful innings. The Australian just could not middle deliveries and found it extremely difficult to get his timing right. Even on occasions where he got the aforementioned perfect, the fielders were on hand to come up with world class stops.

Warner did cross two milestones during his knock as he scored his 50th half-century in IPL and also crossed 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. However, his 55-ball 57 proved to be one of the key factors in SRH not getting to a big total. CSK then chased down the target of 172 without breaking a sweat as their openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis made merry right from the very beginning.

David Warner spoke post-match about the loss and took the blame for it saying, “I take full responsibility for the way I batted, it was really slow, found a lot of fielders and I got frustrated. The way Manish batted was exceptional. Kane got us to a respectable total, but I take full responsibility as it was a total below par. I probably hit 15 good shots to the fielders, I couldn’t do much about it. They are the ones that make or break your innings. It gets frustrating as a batsman when you find the fielders.”

“We had 170 on the board but we couldn’t take powerplay wickets and it’s always tough (to come back) on a good surface like this. Their two openers batted really well, but we fought well in the end. Felt like you could squeeze a bit after those wickets but they were always ahead in the game. The guys will be hurt by this, but they’ll be up and about,” the SRH skipper added.

SRH would desperately want to turn things around now as they have just one win out of six. Their next match is against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on the second of May.
