Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have finally managed to snap out of the streak of defeats as they notched up their first win in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. A dominant bowling performance saw SRH hand Punjab Kings (PBKS) a loss by six wickets. KL Rahul’s Kings failed to adapt to the slow Chennai wickets as they were skittled out for just 120.
Khaleel Ahmed starred with the ball for SRH. The left-arm quick scalped three wickets to send the PBKS middle-order packing. Young all-rounder Abhishek Sharma was impressive too as he finished with figures of 2 for 24 in his quota of four overs. With the bat in hand, openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow were the top scorers with the latter slamming a half-century.

“Abhishek Sharma didn’t know he was bowling the first over,” David Warner
Warner is relieved to get the first points on board for SRH. The Aussie is mighty impressed by the way his bowling unit rose to the occasion. The game saw Kane Williamson return to the side following an injury. Warner shares that the plan was that the top order will be playing anchor in the chase and at the end that was all it took.
“Very pleasing, the bowlers did a fantastic job to reduce them. The game plan of having them there is to anchor the game. He rotates the strike so well. His impact points against spin are there to see,” Warner said in the post-match presentation.
The game saw the bowler in Abhishek rise to the occasion. Warner is pleased the way the youngster has performed with the ball so far. He adds that Abhishek had no idea that he was the one who was going to open the bowling until he was handed the ball. The left arm spinner bagged the prized wickets of Deepak Hooda and Moises Henriques.
“Abhishek is a young guy coming through, we asked him to bowl a lot more this season, and he did it. Till we went on, he didn’t know he was bowling the first over. I didn’t want to think too much about it. It’s all about starting fresh here again, take the wicket out of it,” he signs off.
