Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered their second victory of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The MS Dhoni-led side beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 45 runs to obtain two crucial points and claim the second spot in the charts.

However, CSK skipper MS Dhoni once again batted at the lower order of the innings. Dhoni came in to bat at number seven. He got out after scoring 18 runs off 17 deliveries including two boundaries.

Former India cricketer Anjum Chopra said that she doesn’t see Mahi batting higher in the upcoming matches as well. Chopra said Dhoni’s decision of batting at number seven or eight is CSK’s strategy to add a bit of depth in their playing XI.

“Don’t see MS Dhoni coming in at No.3. Moreover, their strategy has been to add depth to the batting, and hence he would like to come lower down the order. And it is Moeen Ali who has been given the responsibility of batting at No.3. Also, today is the kind of match where I do not see CSK making any changes in their playing XI. Although the result of this match might make an impact on that decision,” said Anjum in an exclusive discussion with India TV Cricket.

The cricketer-turned commentator said that the Chennai-based franchise has taken the right decision of sending Moeen Ali ahead of Suresh Raina. She explained that the Englishman is a regular international cricketer while Raina has retired across all formats.

“As a match-winner, I feel Moeen Ali is in good form. Probably that is why, he has been selected as the No.3 batsman for CSK, ahead of Suresh Raina. But because Raina has made a comeback into the team with a point to prove, that despite taking international retirement he still remains a match-winning player,” said Anjum.
