Chennai Super Kings (CSK) held their nerves in a high-scoring thriller to register a hat-trick of wins in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Having amassed a mammoth total of 220, CSK skittled out Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for 202 to clinch the game. It was Pat Cummins’ heroic innings of 66* that took KKR to the doorsteps of victory but in the end, it wasn’t enough.

At one point, Kolkata were reeling at 31 for 5 as Deepak Chahar decimated their top order with a four-wicket haul. A blistering fifty from Andre Russell and a scintillating cameo from Dinesh Karthik along with Cummins’ unreal innings almost swayed the result in KKR’s favor. But at the end, their effort went in vain as it was the men in yellow who had the last laugh.

KKR skipper Eoin Morgan lauds the lower order for their effort to rescue the game for the side. Although they lost the game, Morgan is glad that his side were able to adapt to the conditions in Mumbai fairly quickly. KKR played first three of their games at Chepauk and this was their first game at the Wankhede.

It’s (pulse) quite high at the moment. One hell of a game. Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik put a partnership together and following that Pat Cummins gave us every chance towards the end. Tremendous fight from the middle and lower order. You ride the emotions throughout the day.

The first five overs of batting didn’t go our way. We didn’t play as well as we would’ve liked. We can be happy with [how we adapted to a] new ground, different challenges,” Morgan said following the game.

The Englishman was compassionate for his bowling unit despite the fact that concede in excess of 200 tonight. Morgan asserts that there isn’t much margin of error for bowlers at the Wankhede. And hence they should be cut some slack given that they are coming off three-games in Chennai where the conditions are the exact opposite to that in Mumbai.

Going back to it, I don’t think there was any margin for error for the bowlers. We need to be kinder to the bowlers. You really need to be on the money.

I tend to stay away from Dre after he gets out [laughs]. It’s great he’s in this sort of form. Disappointing that the rest of us couldn’t help him out,” he signs off.
