Glenn Maxwell went for huge money at the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a fierce bidding war between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended with the former securing his signing for a sum of Rs. 14.25 crores. Maxwell’s IPL contract keeps getting fatter year by year even as his performances haven’t quite justified the same.

Maxwell had a horrendous season last year for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) as he could only muster 108 runs in the tournament. He couldn’t come up with a single match-winning knock for his side as they narrowly ended up missing on the playoff spots. He was subsequently released into the auction pool where he then came under huge demand and expectedly so because of his reputation for big-hitting.

David Warner is one of the most successful cricketers in the IPL as his consistency has been mind-blowing and have translated in his side Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) regularly making the playoffs. The opener is without a doubt, the most successful player ever to play in the IPL and he is showing no signs of stopping. This year as well, he will lead the Sunrisers franchise.

He joked about Maxwell’s IPL contract getting fatter by the day during commentary of the first T20I between Australia and New Zealand and said, “It’s surprising, you get let go from your franchise and you get a lot more after being released,” to Maxwell himself.

Australia ended up on the wrong side of the result during the match as well as Davon Conway blew them away with a 99-run knock. Glenn Maxwell failed to deliver as he was dismissed for just 1.
