Delhi Capitals (DC) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) today in the second of the double-headers. The match will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both sides were in the receiving end of losses in their previous match following confident victories in their first matches. With an equal amount of points, one of these two sides will be able to climb up the table today with a victory today.
DC fell in a last-over thriller against Rajasthan Royals (RR) as Chris Morris took the game away from them with four sixes in the last two overs. PBKS on the other hand, were comprehensively beaten by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thanks to a dream spell from Deepak Chahar that saw him remove a huge chunk of the side’s top order. This match could go either way and a cracker of a contest awaits.
On that note, we take a look at how DC can defeat PBKS today.
IPL 2021: DC vs PBKS – Key for DC #1: Decide on pacers slots
Delhi Capitals went with as much as three overseas pacer in their previous game in Chris Woakes, Kagiso Rabada and Tom Curran. With the likes of Umesh Yadav in the bench, this did not seem like the right move and it was proved in the end with both Curran and Rabada taken for runs in the end by Morris.
Picking three overseas pacers is not a very advisable option especially with the lack of experience in the middle-order. Picking Shimron Hetmyer like they did in the first match or the dependable Steve Smith could be a good move for DC today against PBKS.
IPL 2021: DC vs PBKS – Key for DC #2: Marcus Stoinis must fire
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has had a horror start to his season. He has failed in both matches with the bat and also been taken for runs with the ball. He was one of DC’s vital cogs last season as he fired in crucial junctures with the bat and also contributed with some key wickets with the ball.
Tasked with batting at No. 4 or 5, a lot would depend on how well the Aussie plays today. If he gets going, he would be an impossible man to stop and that is exactly what DC would want.
