IPL 2021: PBKS vs RCB, Match 26 – How can Punjab Kings defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore today?

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings (PBKS) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) today at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Virat Kohli-led side are flying high while KL Rahul‘s PBKS have not performed up to the mark. The latter have been guilty of being woefully inconsistent and further, their squad does not seem to have the right balance with regard to combination.

RCB don’t have such problems despite the fact that their batting line-up is not too deep. This is because of the wealth of talent in their line-up with each individual more than capable to change a game on his own. With five wins in six, RCB are flying high and would want to get back to the top of the table. PBKS would have to be at their absolute best to tame the Royal Challengers today.

On that note, we take a look at how PBKS can defeat RCB today.

IPL 2021: PBKS vs RCB – Key for PBKS #1: Decide on team combination

While Punjab Kings boast of some of the best players in the world, their squad seems to lack the key aspect of balance. With a not so deep batting line-up and a not so deep bowling line up, there is a need for the side to be careful in both departments of the game for the shallowness to not be exposed.

The likes of Moises Henriques and Deepak Hooda can not be trusted to be their key bowlers and there is a need to rethink the entire combination. With Nicholas Pooran not getting among the runs as well, there is a case to bring in World No. 1 in T20Is, Dawid Malan who has been warming the bench so far.

IPL 2021: PBKS vs RCB – Key for PBKS #2: Top order must deliver

Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul

Punjab Kings’ opening pair Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul have been some of the few shining sparks in the side’s batting displays this season. The duo has scored a bulk of the scoring and given good starts. Rahul is once again amidst the leading run scorers in the tournament and Agarwal has shown glimpses that he could belong to that list as well.

The two hold the key for PBKS as recent matches have shown that if they get out early, the side is susceptible to a batting collapse. There is thus, a need for the top order to exercise a bit of caution while also showing intent to get the Kings off to a flyer.
