Kieron Pollard pulled off a chase for the ages as his explosive knock helped Mumbai Indians (MI) pull off a stunning chase against their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. The West Indian was in his element throughout as he pummeled the CSK bowlers and hit them out of the ground at will. He also shone with the ball by picking up two wickets earlier.
It was a truly remarkable performance from the big man and it was evident that he was emotional after the win due to the sheer magnitude of his knock. For his efforts, Pollard was given the Man of the Match award and it was a no-brainer.
Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya speak on the win
Kieron Pollard spoke at the post-match presentation about his performance and said, “I want to thank god, uncle Steven, giving me the strength. They had four overs of spin to bowl on a small ground, I was trying to hit them. I had to maximise against Jadeja. Couple of sixes were always going to keep us in the game. You have to evolve, lot of practice goes into it. That has helped me. I can’t say I’m 360, I am maximising more angles in the field.”
Speaking of the last over finish, he said, “Dhawal’s decent with the bat, but I needed to bat six balls. That’s the pressure you need to take as an individual. We have done this time and time again. We got over the line today, fortunately, Faf gave me the chase. Overall, a good wicket. Two wins, hopefully that gives us the momentum.”
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya spoke about Pollard’s performance and said, “After winning this sort of a game you got to be pumped for the rest of the night I guess. When he (Pollard) does something like this you are genuinely speechless. The best part was he has done it over the years again and again. Bloody… Fantastic. I mean I will say inspirational to watch someone do it consistently and on his day do something this amazing. I would have loved to finish the game, but us winning the game was more important. 210 (218)… the game can’t get better than this.“
MI play Sunrisers Hyderabad next on the 4th of May.
