Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on high-flying Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) today at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the 30th match of VIVO IPL 2021 which will be both sides’ eighth match of the season. With KKR in desperate need of a win and RCB also looking to bounce back from defeat in their previous match, the intensity of the encounter is bound to be high and this could turn out to be a cracker of a match.

Kolkata Knight Riders have been woefully inconsistent this season and they find themselves on the seventh spot in the points table with just two wins out of their first seven matches. Unless a spectacular turnaround occurs, the Eoin Morgan-led side’s chances of making it to the playoffs look slim.

In their previous match against Delhi Capitals (DC), KKR were guilty of starting slowly and it was only a whirlwind knock from Andre Russell that took them to a total of 154. The chase was then eased by Prithvi Shaw who took 25 runs off Shivam Mavi‘s first over to all but seal the deal.

After the crushing defeat, KKR can ill afford another one today.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore are in good place at the moment as they find themselves on the third spot, having lost just two matches in the tournament so far. However, with one of the two losses coming in the previous match, RCB would want to bounce back with a much better showing.

In the previous match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), RCB were blown away by two stupendous performances – first from KL Rahul with the bat and Harpreet Brar with an all-round display. With the loss following the same template as their previous one against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), RCB will be wary.

A win today would take RCB to the top two and hence, they would be keen to come up trumps.

Pitch Report

The pitches at the Narendra Modi Stadium have been a bit two-paced. Batsmen have needed to have some patience to get their eye in before going for the big shots. Spinners could get some purchase. Sides winning the toss will look to chase.

Predicted Playing XI

For RCB, Washington Sundar might come back in to the playing XI due to the amount left-handers involved in KKR’s batting line-up. KKR’s line-up is extremely difficult to predict as head coach Brendon McCullum promised that there would be changes. It remains to be seen if the overseas combination will be changed.

Match Prediction

Kolkata Knight Riders are in a real spot of bother at the moment. They haven’t figured out their best combination yet and have been struggling with issues of intent. Head coach Brendon McCullum has promised changes, but it seems unlikely that they would bring about a change in fortunes. As for Royal Challengers Bangalore, they would be keen to bounce back from defeat in their previous match. The Virat Kohli-led side would thus be favourites.
