Ravindra Jadeja was the hero for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their win today against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as he came up with a performance for the ages. The southpaw who walked in to bat with CSK in a bit of a lull after choosing to bat first, struggled initially to open up. However, he delivered in the last over and in some fashion at that as he scored 37 run off the last over.

If that wasn’t enough, the all-rounder followed it up with a three-wicket haul with the ball. Further, the wickets consisted of bowling out Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. Jadeja also effected a direct-hit run-out to dismiss Dan Christian. With such a perfect performance, Jadeja was awarded the Man of the Match.

Reacting to the same, he said, “I’ve been working hard on my fitness, skill, everything. Luckily it paid off. It’s been a tough job being allrounder, you have to do all departments. During training I don’t work on all three, I do skill work one day, training one day, fitness one day. I was just looking to hit it hard. Mahi bhai told me he would bowl somewhere outside off and luckily I connected.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni spoke at the post-match presentation about Jadeja’s performance and said, “Jaddu is somebody who can change the game on his own. In the last few years we’ve seen significant change in batting and it’s worth it to give him that extra bit of time, extra deliveries.”

Speaking about the performance and the score put on board, “The bowlers have found it difficult to contain left-handers, and that helps as well. You can’t really predict the quantum of victory. There’s no control to how many runs or wickets. When we started we had the conversation about whether to bat or bowl. 165 would have been par, and once you get 25 extra the opposition has to come a little harder,” Dhoni said.

About the good start to the season, “We’re not doing anything drastically different from what we did last year. Me and Fleming, we keep saying that we focus on the process. You gain more respect if you keep following your path when you’re under pressure. I think that is something that gave a lot of confidence to the players. Credit to the players. Everybody would have felt the pressure in the first game because it was a lean season,” Dhoni signed off.

CSK’s next match is against Sunrisers Hyderabad on the 28th of April.
