Punjab Kings (PBKS) continue to struggle at the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). PBKS lost their fourth match of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) out of six games. Batting first, the Punjab-based franchise bundled out for a below-par total of 123/9 at the end of their 20 overs.
Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag said that Punjab Kings need to rejig their batting tactics before playing further matches in the tournament. He mentioned that their team struggles to post big runs on the board while batting first despite several power-hitters in their lineup. He added that even if two of their batsmen click at the right moment, they can completely change the game
“Punjab need to sort out their resources, especially when they are batting first. No doubt Punjab bowled very well. They also produced a brilliant performance with the ball against Mumbai Indians in their last game. But the most important factor for them is their batting.
“They need to make sure that their hard-hitters start performing well which will eventually make them consistent in winning games. They have the firepower to score 200-plus runs. Even if two out of their four batsmen click at the right time, they can completely change the game,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
‘PBKS batsmen’s contribution is missing’: Sehwag
The former cricketer said that franchise like Chennai Super Kings are performing well this season because most of their batsmen are contributing to the team’s total. He added apart from one or two PBKS batsmen, no one else has done enough for them.
“We call CSK as one of the best teams because once their batters gain form, all of them can be seen contributing. That contribution of 20-30 runs from each batter was missing in the case of Punjab Kings. None of them contributed,” Sehwag added.
