According to reports, South African batsman Rassie van der Dussen might not join Rajasthan Royals (RR) due to an issue with obtaining a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket South Africa. The 32-year-old was approached by RR and he had agreed to sign for the franchise. He had also obtained a visa to fly to India and with all formalities in place, he only needed to get an NOC which was not given.

van der Dussen was meant to be a replacement for all-rounder Ben Stokes who got injured while fielding during the side’s first match of the season. Already, apart from Stokes, Jofra Archer was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Further, Andrew Tye and Liam Livingstone had left the tournament due to anxiety and concerns over the tournament taking place amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, it was announced that RR had replaced Liam Livingstone with South African pacer Gerald Coetzee. Since there are no complications with regard to the fast bowler, he is set to arrive soon to undergo his quarantine before being available for selection for the side.

On the other hand, ESPNcricinfo have reported that Cricket South Africa are concerned about van der Dussen’s fitness and the possibility of an injury and hence, have denied an NOC. This could mean that he won’t be able to make it for the IPL despite agreeing to do so.
