Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Simon Katich admitted that the team management is wary of the side’s matches in Chennai. The Bangalore-based franchise has struggled against quality spin attack in the past some years and Chepauk has been historically a turning ground.

The Virat Kohli-led side is scheduled to play their initial three matches at the MA Chidambaram in Chennai. During a recent interaction with The Times of India, Katich provided a bit of a sneak-peek into RCB’s game plan while playing at the rank turner of South India. He mentioned that the dew factor is expected to play a crucial role and their side is weighing heavily on a couple of nights of training lined ahead.

“We know it (playing spin) was an area of concern last year, and at times we found it tough, particularly through the middle phase of our batting innings. We are yet to see the surface, but in Chennai, it has historically been a turner. That said, there have been times when it has been high scoring, and the dew can be a factor as well. We will have to weigh all of that once we get a couple of nights of training,” Katich said in an interaction with The Times of India.

Simon Katich also shed light on Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s role in the side during the upcoming season. He mentioned that the Kangaroo will play as a dynamic batsman in the middle phase of the innings.

“We have a role for Maxwell which will enable him to have success. We needed a dynamic batsman in the middle phase of the innings, and he provides that,” Katich said.

RCB is scheduled to lock horns with defending champions Mumbai Indians in the season opener on April 9 from 7:30 PM (IST) onwards.
