IPL 2021: Scott Kuggeleijn joins Mumbai Indians camp as reserve player

Mumbai Indians (MI) have roped in New Zealand all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as is evidenced by a picture posted by James Neesham who is also a part of the franchise. It is likely that the former has been roped in as either a net bowler or a reserve player. MI haven’t yet confirmed the same officially and it is likely that they never would, much like the other franchises.

It is worth noting that Kuggeleijn has already played in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) when he was signed as a replacement player for the injured Lungi Ngidi. He played in two matches and picked up two wickets.

Scott Kuggeleijn’s domestic side had already hinted at him taking part in the IPL

Scott Kuggeleijn plays for the Northern Districts team in New Zealand’s Plunkett Shield tournament. He was set to play in the final round of matches for the side which coincided with the start of the IPL. The side then confirmed that he would not be available due to him taking part in the IPL along with fellow players Tim Seifert (KKR), Kane Williamson (SRH), Trent Boult (MI) and Mitchell Santner (CSK).

While the initial speculation was that it could be CSK yet again, James Neesham’s story featuring the New Zealand duo playing snooker has confirmed that it is in fact defending champions.
