IPL 2021: SRH vs KKR – Match 3, How can Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Kolkata Knight Riders?

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) begin their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). There was nothing to separate between the two sides last season as they both finished with the same points tally – it was only the net run-rate that mattered and took SRH to third while KKR to fifth. The Orange Army then went on to win the Eliminator before falling to runners-up Delhi Capitals (DC) in the second Qualifier.

SRH were among the few teams that did not make a lot of changes to their squad at the auction. They brought in the likes of Kedar Jadhav, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and J Suchith, but none of their buys were big money ones. They chose to stick to their combination from last season and coupled with the addition of Jason Roy instead of Mitchell Marsh, the side would fancy their chances of winning the title.

On that note, we take a look at how SRH can defeat KKR in today’s match.

IPL 2021: SRH vs KKR – Key for SRH #1: Middle order should contribute

SRH have always had an excellent bowling line-up and a terrific top-order. Where they have faltered is with regard to their middle-order consisting of an Indian core. The likes of Manish Pandey and youngsters like Priyam Garg and Abdul Samad must come good on a consistent basis this season and tomorrow against KKR as well.

With the addition of Kedar Jadhav to boost the line-up and with Vijay Shankar fit, available and in form, the Indian batters will have to contribute to ensure that there is not too much pressure on David Warner and the rest of the overseas batters (and bowlers for that matter).

IPL 2021: SRH vs KKR – Key for SRH #2: Don’t let KKR’s explosive batters settle

Andre Russell

KKR are a side that have quite the reverse of SRH’s batting set-up. The Men in Purple have an Indian core at the top of the order followed by overseas finishers as opposed to the Orange Army’s overseas top order and Indian middle-order. A lot will hinge on the performance of the likes of Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell for KKR.

The key for SRH would be to not allow them to settle and keep chipping away with wickets. The side has the perfect arsenal to do so with an excellent Powerplay bowler in Bhuvneshwar Kumar, spin specialist in Rashid Khan and death bowler in T Natarajan. If they manage to do so, it would make life easier for Warner and Co.
