AB de Villiers came up with yet another example in his long list of terrific knocks for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as he scored 76 runs at the death in just 34 balls. It was an exhibition of brutal hitting from the South African as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers were made to look clueless at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai which is known to usually suit bowlers.

Earlier, RCB had got off to a bad start as they lost Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar in just the second over. Just when it seemed like KKR were on top, Glenn Maxwell walked in to steady the ship. He did so with aplomb as he also went for the big shots early on before unleashing his explosive self to score 78 runs. He was involved in good partnerships with Devdutt Padikkal and de Villiers before getting out.

After Maxwell got out, it was the AB de Villiers show with the South African showing everyone his well-known capabilities yet again. As many as 56 runs came in the last three overs alone with KKR’s hero in the last match with the ball, Andre Russell being smoked around the park. The West Indian conceded 38 runs in his two overs as de Villiers looked in supreme control of proceedings in Chennai.

Off the 19th bowled by Harbhajan Singh as well, de Villiers came up with effortless shots. It was a treat for fans of the South African even as talk of a potential return to the national team from retirement looms. Twitter was meanwhile filled with reactions of awe at de Villiers’ knock.
