The tagline of the Indian Premier League (IPL) – “Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi” which means “Where talent meets opportunity” yet again came true. This time it’s for Saurashtra-born Chetan Sakariya who made his debut for Rajasthan Royals during the match against Punjab Kings.

The 22-year old finished with brilliant bowling figures of 4-0-31-3 in a high-scoring match at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Sakariya took the crucial wickets of PBKS openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal along with Jhye Richardson. His top-notch performance didn’t stop here as Chetan also took one of the finest catches in the history of the tournament to dismiss Nicholas Pooran.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag also couldn’t stop himself from appreciating the RR youngster. Sehwag said that Sakariya exhibited the qualities of Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra of not getting scared after being hit for a boundary.

“I’ve heard his name, even saw him bowl in domestic games but didn’t expect that he would bowl so well. You face different batters in the domestic circuit but in IPL, you come across big and renowned batsmen. We got to see his temperament. He was fearless.

“Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra always say that as a bowler, you should never be scared of getting hit for a boundary. Until you won’t get hit, you cannot learn and pick wickets. So, I think, he [Sakariya] exhibited that kind of temperament,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Virender Sehwag talked about the bowling variations that Chetan Sakariya used during the match. He also leapt praises for the way Sakariya surprised the opposition’s top batsmen including Agarwal and Chris Gayle.

“He had variations as well. Though there were a few no-balls but overall, he bowled very well. The way he got Mayank Agarwal and surprised Chris Gayle with one of his deliveries, he was completely impressive,” he added.
