Jonny Bairstow breathed fire for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as an opener after being promoted up the order for the match against Mumbai Indians (MI). SRH had opened with Wriddhiman Saha as the opener and the wicket-keeper for each of their first two matches but the Indian batter couldn’t come up with good showings. He was dropped today and Bairstow who was batting at No. 4 was promoted.

In a small chase of 151, Bairstow provided the impetus with a superb attacking start that saw him take on the New Zealand pacers Trent Boult and Adam Milne. Earlier, MI had struggled to get going after a brisk start provided by Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. It was only some lusty blows at the death from Kieron Pollard which helped MI to a competitive and challenging total of 150.

Bairstow came up with a brutal knock at the top of the order and to add to the brutality came a six from Bairstow that struck a refrigerator in the dug out, breaking its glass. In the 3rd over of SRH’s innings bowled by Trent Boult, the Englishman decided that enough was enough and that he would take on the pacers to put pressure on them due to the fact that they were defending a small total.

Bairstow hit the New Zealander for two fours in a row before he came up with one of the shots of the night. He lifted a delivery just outside off with a beautiful lofted drive that sailed over long-off. The ball travelled and travelled before hitting the glass of a refrigerator kept in the SRH dug out. The glass was shattered by the shot, even as Bairstow continued with his innings with aplomb.
