IPL uncertainty jeopardises Dhoni’s future, says Srikkanth

Whether cricket is played or not but MS Dhoni is always in limelight. The wicket keeper batsman came in highlights when former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth says that future of Dhoni’s international career could be in jeopardy if this year’s IPL is cancelled.

After the defeat against New Zealand in World Cup semi final, July last year, he didn’t play even a single game and made himself unavailable for any game.

After that young Rishabh Pant consider as a natural replacement of Dhoni as a wicket keeper. While Kl Rahul also has impressed with his gloves behind the wickets and now Rahul consider as a proper wicketkeeper for limited overs of Cricket.

Dhoni begin his training of IPL with Chennai Super Kings for this year’s IPL season but the tournament had postponed until April 15 due to coronavirus pandemic and another postponement seems inevitable.

“I am not going to be diplomatic…If the IPL does not happen then his chances are very, very bleak,” Srikkanth, also a former chief selector, told the Star Sports.

“In my opinion, K.L. Rahul will be the wicket keeper-batsman…I believe Rishabh Pant is highly talented. So, I wouldn’t mind taking him along with the squad. But definitely, if the IPL doesn’t happen, then Dhoni will have a difficult time getting back into the team for the T20 World Cup.” The Twenty20 World Cup is scheduled in Australia from October 18.
