Dustin Poirier beat Conor McGregor at UFC 257

Dustin Poirier defeated Conor McGregor to stamp his authority on the Notorious One and equalize his score at UFC 257. The former Lightweight interim champion won the fight via second-round TKO over McGregor in the most exquisite of fashion. Both these lightweight superstars were contesting in the rematch of 2014.

Too much contrary, in which the Irishman won comfortably via first-round TKO. McGregor was coming off a quick 40-second win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. Whereas Poirier had won his previous encounter against Dan Hooker

Dustin Poirier started the fight with an early takedown to which McGregor had no answer. By the time the latter to get back to his feet, Poirier had already held him off on numerous occasions against the cage. Conor hurt him with some shoulder but Poirier bounced back hard in the second round.

The Diamond was surely using his grappling and boxing techniques to hold McGregor off. Having no major attacking intent in the first round, the Irishman knew he had to start off aggressively to bounce back in the fight. Poirier hurt Conor with leg kicks and as soon as see the opening he knocked him out.

Dustin Poirier cements himself as the best boxer

Dustin Poirier replied back to Max Holloway who claimed to be the best boxer in the octagon. Especially after his win at UFC 257 against Conor McGregor. Poirier suggested that he goes out after his opponent with his punches. Even though he has immense respect for Max Holloway, he still feels, he is a better boxer than him.

The stakes were ever so high for this contest as UFC President Dana White had announced that Khabib Nurmagomedov may come out of retirement to fight any of the top four lightweight competing at UFC 257.

A win here for McGregor could’ve surely meant, he could get his hands back onto the ‘Eagle’ after the humiliating defeat he had to face. But Poirier was not letting McGregor have any taste of victory today surely. 

Talking about the fight at UFC 257, McGregor got off to a good start in the second round and many might have thought this is going to be a long night in order to get a result. But much to their surprise, it was Poirier who with a flurry of punches that sent McGregor to the canvas.

After the fight, Poirier announced that “I beat Max Holloway twice and Conor McGregor once I think I’m the best boxer in UFC”. McGregor and Poirier shared a moment of respect as the two lightweight stalwarts embraced each other. But for the moment ‘The Diamond’ shines bright at UFC 257.
