Diego Schwartzman, the 8th seeded Argentine has been in amazing form this week in Rome. He received a bye in the 1st round, defeated John Millman in straight sets in the 2nd round, got past Hubert Hurkacz in a tough three-set match in the 3rd round before causing the upset of the tournament defeating Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals in straight sets. Schwartzman probably played some of his best tennis against the Spaniard because it takes some metal to beat Rafa in straight sets on clay.
Denis Shapovalov has also been playing good tennis over the past month. After reaching the quarterfinals at the US Open 2020, Shapovalov has carried his good form at Rome and made it to the semifinals. He defeated Guido Pella in the 1st round, Pedro Martinez Portero in straight sets in the 2nd round before beating Ugo Humbert in a tough three-set match in the 3rd round. He had to play another three sets in his quarterfinal match against Grigor Dimitrov where Shapovalov made a good comeback after losing the first set. He eventually won the game in 3 sets and booked a place in the semifinals of the Italian Open 2020.
