Sinner announced himself to the tennis world by beating David Goffin and Alexander Zverev en route to his quarterfinal run at the Roland Garros.

Toni Nadal has coached his nephew Rafael Nadal from the start of the Spaniard’s career till 2016. The Spanish coach linked Sinner’s rise to that of his World champion nephew. The Italian won his first ATP title as a teenager, same as Nadal who won his first title in Sopot 2004 at the age of 18.

Toni also mentioned how his nephew’s constant hunger to play better helped fulfill his potential. “I have always said that in life there is a special talent: the ability of learning. Hard work makes a player world number 1,” Toni said.

He also added, “What mattered was that Rafael fulfilled his potential. I would have never thought that he could win 20 Grand Slam titles.”

After leaving Rafael Nadal in 2016, Toni went on to manage other young tennis aspirants but he is sure he won’t find a “‘second Rafael Nadal’.

“I am sure that I will no longer train such a great player like Rafa in the future, but I believe I can give something to the new generation of players I am training now,” Toni concluded.
