Jannik Sinner has opened his campaign at the ATP Finals. The Italian is looking to win his second successive ATP Finals title and is also in the running for the World No.1 ranking.

While he is focusing on his performance, Sinner was asked whether he keeps track of other results, in particular Carlos Alcaraz. However, the second seed denied it and claimed that his priority is his performances and results. Sinner said in his post-match press conference:

My team and I are barely watching the other matches. Obviously, I know the results, but we’re paying close attention to what we’re doing. I don’t waste energy watching the other matches, so I can concentrate all my focus on the important moments that are coming up.

Sinner needs to win the ATP Finals undefeated and hope that Alcaraz doesn’t win three matches in Turin to secure Year-End World No.1. Considering the situation, Alcaraz is the favorite to clinch it for the second time in his career.

Both Sinner and Alcaraz have finished Year-End No.1 once in their careers. Alcaraz achieved it in 2022, while the Italian did it last year.

Jannik Sinner opens pursuit of ATP Finals defense

Defending champion Jannik Sinner began his ATP Finals title defense with a strong performance, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-5, 6-1 in front of his home crowd on Monday. To finish the year as world No. 1, Sinner must win the tournament and hope Carlos Alcaraz does not reach the final.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked No. 8, appeared to struggle with a left calf problem that started late in the first set. He received medical attention twice during the second set.

Sinner, who captured last year’s title in Turin without dropping a set, remains unbeaten at the event since losing the 2023 final to Novak Djokovic. He has now beaten Auger-Aliassime four times this season, including at the U.S. Open and the Paris Masters.

Sinner is looking to win a sixth ATP title of the season. He has shown remarkable consistency throughout the season, failing to reach the finals in only two tournaments this year.

Carlos Alcaraz one win away from securing Year-End World No.1

Carlos Alcaraz took another step toward his first Nitto ATP Finals title on Tuesday with a hard-fought win over Taylor Fritz. The match lasted two hours and 48 minutes and kept fans on edge throughout.

In front of a packed crowd at the Inalpi Arena, the top-seeded Spaniard battled back to win 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-3. The victory kept him unbeaten at 2-0 in the Jimmy Connors Group.

Fritz looked ready to earn his second indoor win over Alcaraz in 2025. However, the 22-year-old turned the match around with determination and brilliant shot-making.

Alcaraz can reach the semifinals if Alex de Minaur defeats Lorenzo Musetti later on Tuesday. He is now within 50 points of claiming the ATP Year-End No. 1 ranking and will face Musetti next.
