Jannik Sinner is set to be back in action at the Cincinnati Open, where he will try to defend his title. This is just the second Masters 1000 event he will participate in this year after being the finalist at the Italian Open in May.

Ahead of the Cincinnati Open, the Italian was seen practicing with a sleeve on his right forearm. This can be a concern because this is the same sleeve that he wore after injury his elbow at Wimbledon in the fourth round against Grigor Dimitrov.

The good news is that Sinner was able to recover from that problem and lost only one set in his last three Wimbledon matches against Ben Shelton, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz. He went on to win his first Wimbledon title and fourth Grand Slam title.

It remains to be seen if there are further developments regarding the sleeve. Much can only be said after he plays his first match at the Cincinnati Open.

Projecting Jannik Sinner’s path at the Cincinnati Open

World No.1 Jannik Sinner receives a first-round bye. In the second round, he will play either Vit Kopriva or a qualifier. This gives him a favorable start to the tournament.

If Sinner progresses to the third round, possible opponents include Gabriel Diallo, Sebastian Baez, or David Goffin. Things become more challenging in the fourth round, where he might face either 13th seed Tommy Paul or 19th seed Tomáš Macháč.

Reaching the quarterfinals, Sinner could meet 8th seed Lorenzo Musetti, 11th seed Casper Ruud, or 25th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. These matches are expected to be more competitive and demanding.

In the semifinals, potential opponents include 4th seed Taylor Fritz, 7th seed Holger Rune, or 15th seed Flavio Cobolli. If Sinner reaches the final, he may face top players such as 2nd seed Carlos Alcaraz, 3rd seed Alexander Zverev, 5th seed Ben Shelton, or 6th seed Alex de Minaur.

Carlos Alcaraz’s path at the Cincinnati Open

Carlos Alcaraz has a first-round bye. In the second round, he will take on either Damir Džumhur or Mattia Bellucci. It’s a manageable start for the second seed.

If he wins that match, his third-round opponent could be 26th seed Tallon Griekspoor or Hamad Medjedovic. In the fourth round, things could get tougher with possible matchups against 16th seed Jakub Menšík or 24th seed Denis Shapovalov.

A quarterfinal spot might see Alcaraz face strong contenders like 6th seed Alex de Minaur, 9th seed Andrey Rublev, or 21st seed Alexei Popyrin. These matches will likely test his form and stamina.

In the semifinals, Alcaraz could go up against Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, or 12th seed Daniil Medvedev. If he makes the final, top names like Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz, or Holger Rune could be waiting for him.
